Case study

Balby Railway Bridge (Doncaster)

The project:

Balby New Railway Bridge, constructed in 1976, carries the A630 over the East Coast Main Line. Previously undertaken survey and testing works had identified significant damage to certain areas of this structure as a result of extensive corrosion to the reinforcement and the associated spalling, cracking and delamination of the surrounding concrete.

The solution:

APA Concrete Repairs Ltd were appointed to carry out an extensive schedule of hydro-demolition and subsequent concrete repair works using a dry sprayed concrete, to the bridge pier, east abutment, wingwall and service bay soffit, as well as the installation of ribbed steel and fabric reinforcement, crack sealing and cementitious grouting where required.
