Case study

Victoria Road (Woking)

The project:

Victoria Road, Woking is home to a large, occupied social housing community. Sections of the housing blocks had begun to fall into a state of dis-repair, with multiple external defects present the buildings were in need of attention, so in December 2016 APA Concrete Repairs Ltd were appointed to undertake a suite of refurbishment works, encompassing repairs to external staircases and a balcony soffit and facia.

The solution:

A programme of repairs was to be undertaken for both the staircases and balconies. Concrete repairs were identified and completed. A migratory corrosion inhibitor (MCI) was applied to the repair areas and to all other exposed concrete surfaces. Upon completion of the repairs, the staircases and balcony soffits and facias were thoroughly prepared prior to the application of protective anti-carbonation coatings. The stair treads and balcony walkways were coated with a guaranteed rapid anti-slip waterproofing system.

The outcome:

The refurbishment of this social housing build on Victoria Road was completed within a three-week period, ensuring this residential area quickly returned to its normal surroundings. The repairs undertaken ensured the structural integrity of both the balcony and staircases and provided a largely improved aesthetic finish to these features, with the coatings applied ensuring long-term protection from future deterioration.
